Background:
"ABC Corp", a mid-sized manufacturing company that specializes in producing confectionary products in the food & beverage industry required a path to unlock success. The company has been in business for over two decades and has experienced steady growth over the years. However, as the business grew, the company's organizational structure became more complex and cumbersome, leading to confusion among employees and inefficiencies in their operations. The management team approached us to help them restructure their organization and set it up strategically to expand roles, individual, and team opportunities.
Step 1: Conduct an Organizational Assessment
We began by conducting an assessment of the current organizational structure and the company's strategic goals. We started by reviewing the company's vision, mission, and values to determine if they align with the organizational structure. The assessment included interviews with the management team, focus groups with employees, and a review of the company's policies and procedures.
Step 2: Analyze the Data
Next, we analyzed the data collected during the organizational assessment to identify areas of improvement. We identified that the company's organizational structure was rigid and hierarchical, with limited opportunities for career growth and development. The employees were divided into functional silos, which led to a lack of cross-functional collaboration and communication.
Step 3: Develop a New Organizational Structure
Our next action was to develop a new organizational structure that aligned with the company's strategic goals and encouraged employee growth and development. The new structure was designed to be more agile and flexible, with cross-functional teams that would work together on projects. The new structure also included clear career paths for employees and opportunities for them to develop new skills.
Step 4: Communicate the New Structure to the Employees
Once we developed the new structure, we focused on communicating the new structure to the employees through a series of town hall meetings and one-on-one meetings with managers. We explained the benefits of the new structure and how it would improve their work environment and provide them with more opportunities for career growth.
Step 5: Implement the New Structure
A critical step to follow was working with management team to implement the new organizational structure. The consultant provided training to the managers and employees on how to work in the new structure, including how to collaborate across functions and how to manage projects. The consultant also helped the company develop new policies and procedures to support the new structure and establish critical success factors for the functions.
Step 6: Evaluate the Results
Our final step came post implementation, where we conducted a follow-up assessment to evaluate the results of the new structure. The assessment included interviews with employees and managers, focus groups, and a review of the company's performance metrics. It was unanimous across the Org. that the new structure had improved communication and collaboration among employees, increased employee engagement and satisfaction, and improved the company's overall performance.
Conclusion:
Through this 6-step process, we were able to help "ABC Corp" restructure its organization to align with its strategic goals and provide employees with more opportunities for growth and development.
The new structure improved communication and collaboration among employees, increased employee engagement and satisfaction, and improved the company's overall performance.
